Atommash made a set of bends for the reactor coolant pipeline

Volgodonsk Branch  of “AEM-technology” “Atommash” (belongs to the engineering division of ROSATOM –  Atomenergomash) manufactured a set of bends for the reactor coolant pipeline (RCP) for Akkuyu NPP unit No.1.

A total of 16 RCP bends were made. The weight of one bend is 7 tons, the outer diameter is 995 mm. Works on the manufacture of RCP bends are carried out in three stages. The first stage of ovalization is the pressing of “cold” blanks in the required form. The second stage is stamping. Parts are heated at 870 degrees for about 2 hours, and then about an hour at 1080 degrees. Then a special press with a force of 6300 tons bends the items on 90 degrees. At the third stage, it is necessary to heat harden the finished bend. To do this, the hot irems with the help of crane are sent to a caisson filled with water.

The reactor coolant pipeline (RCP) are designed to connect the main equipment of the primary circuit of a nuclear power plant: a reactor, steam generators and reactor coolant pump. The coolant circulates through it - water with a temperature of 320 ° C and a pressure of up to 17.6 MPa. Pipelines belong to the first category of seismic resistance and are able to withstand an earthquake of nine points. The total length of the pipeline is more than 160 meters.

JSC Atomenergomash is a single-source manufacturer of equipment of reactor plant and turbine island for all four units of Akkuyu NPP. The enterprise division manufactures the reactor pressure vessels, steam generators, pumping, heat-exchange and other equipment that will ensure a reliable and safe operation of nuclear power plants throughout the entire service life. Also, the division’s enterprises are currently manufacturing the reactor equipment for nuclear power plants in India, Bangladesh, China, Russia and other countries.

Akkuyu NPP is the first nuclear power plant to be built in the Republic of Turkey. The Akkuyu NPP project includes four power units with Russian reactors of the WWER type 3+. The capacity of each nuclear power unit will be 1200 MW. To date, the project is fully funded by the Russian side. The construction of Akkuyu NPP is the first project in the nuclear industry world implemented according to the Build-Own-Operate model
