Petrozavodsk Branch of JSC “AEM-technology” (a part of machine-building division of Rosatom State Corporation – Atomenergomash, and a member of Karelian Regional Wing of the Russian Engineering Union) completed machining of parts of the pressurizer intended for Akkuyu NPP (Turkey) Power Unit 1.

The pressurizer body is a welded vessel consisting of four cylindrical thick-wall shells and two elliptical ends. Machining of parts is carried out after the parts inside is overlaid with a layer of corrosion-resistant steel. As a result of the machining on turning-and-boring and milling lathes the overlay thickness on the shell inside and in overflow pipes becomes even and equal to 9 mm. Besides, edges of shells and ends are machined for further fitting, fit-up and welding. Machining of one large shell with a weight of 36.5 tons takes 160 hours on one lathe.

The pressurizer is a part of the key equipment of NPP reactor hall. It is intended for pressure development and maintenance in the reactor primary circuit. Petrozavodskmash is now in the process of manufacturing pressurizers for two power units of a nuclear power plant being under construction in Turkey.

Akkuyu NPP is the first NPP in Turkey constructed on the south coast of the country in Mersin Province. The plant is constructed according to an improved NPP design with GenIII+ VVER-1200 power units with enhanced safety and improved technical and economic features.
