Petrozavodskmash has manufactured the first batch of piping valves for Rooppur NPP

Petrozavodsk Branch of JSC “AEM-technology” (a part of machine-building division of Rosatom State Corporation – Atomenergomash, and a member of Karelian Regional Wing of the Russian Engineering Union) manufactured 8 swing check valves for the first nuclear power plant in Bangladesh – Rooppur NPP. Altogether the company will manufacture 184 units of pipeline valves for the Rooppur NPP including high-pressure and low-pressure wedge gate valves and swing check valves.

Swing check valves belong to safety class 4 items and are intended for operation under elevated temperatures up to 300 degrees and high pressure up to 11 MPa.

In the course of manufacture valves are subject to visual and dimensional inspections, weld joints are checked by means of penetrant test. The assembled items passed hydraulic tests for valve closure tightness and strength successfully. The valves were held under test pressure of 18.4 MPa for dia. 80 mm and 18.3 MPa for dia. 100 mm for 10 minutes.

The Rooppur NPP with two VVER-1200 reactors of total capacity 2400 MW from the Russian design is under construction in 160 km from Dhaka – the capital of Bangladesh.  A Russian design with VVER-1200 reactors successfully implemented at Novovoronezh-2 NPP Unit 1 was selected for the first NPP in Bangladesh. This is an evolutionary GenIII+ design which entirely meets all international safety requirements.
