The reactor pressure vessel for Akkuyu NPP, Unit No.2 was dispatched from the facilities of IZHORSKIYE ZAVODY JSC under the Contract with AEM-Technologies,  JSC (a part of the machine building division of Rosatom – Atomenergomash).

The specialists of IZHORSKIYE ZAVODY JSC started the manufacturing of the reactor pressure vessel in Mach 2019 according to the Contract in force. The whole complex of tests was completed during the manufacturing, including the hydraulic tests of the reactor pressure vessel with the top head, as well as the test assembly of the internals with the top head. All geometric parameters, alignment of the components and a high quality of the manufactured item were confirmed by the commission. The equipment was disassembled after the tests and packed for transportation to the construction site.

The reactor pressure vessel will be delivered to the Akkuyu NPP site by sea. It will travel more than 9,000 km by sea from the Sea port of Saint-Petersburg to the southern coast of Turkey.

The reactor is an item of the first safety class. It is a vertical cylindrical vessel with an elliptical bottom. The core and internals are located inside the equipment. The nuclear reactor is hermetically sealed with a top head where the drives of accessories and control and protection system are installed and nozzles of output sensor cables for in-core monitoring are located. The reactor pressure vessel length is 12 m, the wall thickness at the core is 192.5 mm, the diameter is 4.5 m, and the total weight is 334 tn.

Akkuyu NPP, Turkey is the first project in the world of the nuclear industry being implemented according to the BOO model (Build-Own-Operate). The project includes four power units equipped with Russian Generation III+  VVER reactors of increased safety and improved performance. The capacity of each NPP power unit will be 1200 MW.
