Atommash manufactured the Lower semi-vessel of a nuclear reactor for unit No. 8 of Tianwan NPS

Atommash Branch, AEM-Technologies, JSC in Volgodonsk (is a part of machine-building division of Rosatom-Atomenergomash) manufactured Lower semi-vessel of Reactor for Unit No.8 of Tianwan NPS (China).

Specialists joined the Bottom, Core Shell and Support Shell. The assembly of components with a diameter of 4.5 m is carried out with maximum accuracy: the mismatch between the edges of the blanks can be no more than 1 mm. Then, the 160-ton structure was transferred from a vertical position to a horizontal position by means of a turn-over device and installed on a welding machine.

Two circumferential welds were performed in automatic mode for 17 days with a constant heating from 150 to 300 ℃. Then the specialists carried out heat treatment to relieve residual stresses in the welds.

Reactor is a vertical cylindrical vessel with an elliptical Bottom. There is a core and Internals inside the item. From above, the equipment is sealed with a Cover with drives of mechanisms and control and protection units installed on it, nozzles for outputting cables of in-reactor control sensors.

For units No. 7 and No. 8 of Tianwan NPS, Atommash will manufacture two Reactor Vessels with Internals, a Cover and an Upper Unit, and two sets of Steam Generators.

Tianwan NPS is located in Jiangsu Province, China. The first power units No. 1 and No. 2 with Reactors VVER-1000 were delivered to the customer and put into warranty operation in 2007. The third and fourth units were put into warranty operation in 2018. On 8th June 2018, an intergovernmental protocol and a framework contract for construction of power units No. 7 and No. 8 of the Tianwan NPS with reactors VVER-1200, which belong to the latest generation “3+” was signed in Beijing. The design and construction of the facility is carried out by the Engineering Division of Rosatom State Corporation.
